The Setting
VALORANT Champions 2026 is underway in Shanghai, and Group B opened with a matchup that carried immediate stakes: Team Vitality, the European side, against Global Esports, winners of Pacific Stage 2. Champions is the final tournament of the VALORANT season, meaning every loss here narrows a team's championship window until it closes entirely.
The Series, Map by Map
Team Vitality drew first blood on Abyss, closing the map 13-10. Global Esports hit back on Ascent, taking it 13-9 to level the series and force a decider. On the final map, Summit, Vitality held their nerve in a tight finish, winning 13-11 to seal the series 2-1.
What Comes Next
The result sends Global Esports into the lower bracket. For the Pacific Stage 2 winners, the margin for error is now a single loss — one more defeat and their run at the season's final tournament ends early.
Team Vitality, meanwhile, advance in Group B with their upper-bracket position intact. Their next matches will determine whether they can convert this opening win into a playoff berth, while Global Esports must regroup quickly if they want their Shanghai campaign to last beyond the group stage.
Where Things Stand
The group stage has only just begun, but the structure of Champions means this loss already defines Global Esports' path: win in the lower bracket or go home. Vitality's 13-10, 9-13, 13-11 victory keeps them on the safer side of that equation.
