A Record Born on Twitch
Cath Bowie, a Scotland-based streamer better known by her handle grumpygran1948, has officially been recognized as the oldest female Fortnite streamer on Twitch, earning herself a Guinness World Records title. The recognition highlights an unlikely but inspiring presence in a gaming community usually associated with much younger players.
From Sept. 1, 1948 to Sept. 1, 2026 Milestones
Bowie celebrated her 78th birthday on Sept. 1, marking another milestone in a life that has increasingly revolved around gaming and streaming. Her birthday has become a recurring moment of celebration for her online community, who have watched her continue streaming well into her late seventies.
Nearly Nine Years in the Battle Royale
Her Fortnite journey began almost nine years ago, meaning she picked up Epic Games' battle royale not long after the game's rise to global popularity. Rather than a passing curiosity, the game became a lasting passion — one she now shares with viewers through regular streams on Twitch, where she has built her identity as grumpygran1948.
Why It Matters
Bowie's story challenges common assumptions about who plays games and who streams them. For older viewers, she offers proof that gaming communities can be welcoming at any age; for the broader Twitch audience, her Guinness World Record stands as a visible reminder that Fortnite's appeal cuts across generations. Her continued presence on the platform suggests her journey is still very much ongoing.
Where Things Stand
At 78, with nearly nine years of Fortnite behind her and an official record to her name, Bowie remains an active Twitch streamer — proof that dropping into the battle royale has no age limit.
