LG Display unveils 720Hz OLED gaming panel

LG's display division has kicked off mass production of a 720Hz OLED gaming panel, pushing competitive monitors well past the 480Hz refresh rates that currently sit at the top of the market. The 24.5-inch panel is built specifically with esports in mind, and ASUS has already signed on to use it in an upcoming monitor.

Why 720Hz matters for esports

Refresh rates in competitive gaming have climbed steadily over recent years, with 240Hz long considered the standard for serious play and 480Hz panels now available from several manufacturers. LG's new panel essentially leaps a full tier beyond what's currently on shelves, offering smoother motion clarity and reduced visual lag in fast-paced titles where split-second reactions decide matches.

The 24.5-inch size is no accident, either. Smaller displays remain popular among professional players because they let gamers take in the whole screen without excessive eye or head movement, keeping everything within a comfortable field of view during intense fights.
