Deconstructeam, the Spanish studio behind narrative gems like The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood and The Red Strings Club, has locked in a release date for its next project. Virtue and a Sledgehammer arrives on Steam on October 27th, and it promises something a little different: a story about returning home and, quite literally, tearing it all down.
Demolition as Therapy
The premise centers on Pratelle, who heads back to her hometown with heavy machinery and unresolved history. Think of it as DIY with emotional baggage — except instead of renovating, you're leveling the place entirely. The game weaves together memories of Pratelle's relationships with her mother and her science-oriented sister, the latter apparently connected to the strange ghostly robots now roaming the town.
A Demo Is Already Available
Alongside the date announcement, which Deconstructeam shared in a Steam post and a fresh trailer, the studio reminded players that a demo dropped back in June. It covers the game's opening area for anyone curious to get a taste of the demolition catharsis before launch. The studio described the full experience as packed with surprises and some genuinely grim moments, warning that early playtesters reported finishing the game feeling emotionally drained — going so far as to call it possibly their harshest game yet.
That's a bold claim from a team whose previous work already leans heavily into uncomfortable emotional territory. The Cosmic Wheel Sisterhood followed a fortune-telling witch on an asteroid who designs her own tarot cards before getting tangled up in politics, while The Red Strings Club mixed cyberpunk bartending with probing conversations about fate and control. If Virtue and a Sledgehammer hits anywhere near that same bar, it could be a standout in this year's indie lineup.
What Happens Next
The full version launches October 27th on Steam, where it's already available to wishlist. If you want a preview of the emotional wreckage to come, the June demo remains playable on the game's store page. Whether you're drawn in by the destructible environments or the promise of a heavy-hitting story, there's just over a month to wait before the sledgehammer swings.
