Rebel Wolves to release first major Blood of Dawnwalker patch with new easier difficulty next month

Rebel Wolves is preparing the first major patch for The Blood of Dawnwalker, and it's shaping up to address several of the community's biggest complaints. Speaking in a recent interview with Eurogamer, game director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz outlined plans for a new, more accessible difficulty setting, smoother escape mechanics, combat camera tweaks, and continued performance work — with the update most likely landing in early October.

A Story Mode for Players Who Just Want the Story

The headline addition is a fresh difficulty option aimed squarely at players who find the current combat too punishing. The existing Story mode will be renamed — Tomaszkiewicz suggested it may become "Demanding" or something similar — while a brand-new, gentler Story mode will let players experience the narrative without wrestling with combat challenges.

"We will introduce an additional difficulty level, but an easier one, because many people are asking for a more easy difficulty," Tomaszkiewicz explained.

Escaping Fights Won't Be a Clunky Mess Anymore

Anyone who has tried to flee a losing battle knows the frustration: your character keeps snagging on random bits of terrain, turning a tense getaway into a chore. That's changing. Tomaszkiewicz said the team is working on a fix where running or escaping ignores the nav mesh entirely, making movement fluid rather than clunky. He admitted the problem slipped through because the developers themselves rarely ran from fights — apparently a braver bunch than most players.

Combat will also see a small but meaningful adjustment. Currently, using a stun ability automatically shifts the camera to a different enemy — a change Tomaszkiewicz takes personal responsibility for. He accidentally hit stunned opponents while playing during reviews, prompting the auto-switch. Players have complained, though, so the upcoming patch will remove it. After the update, striking a stunned enemy three times will break the stun — though even that may change based on feedback.

PC Performance and the Frame Rate Debate

PC performance has drawn criticism, which Tomaszkiewicz attributes to the sheer variety of hardware configurations out there. The studio is gathering hardware details from players and pushing out fixes accordingly. He also offered a slightly exasperated take on frame rate demands, noting that while the game already runs above 60 FPS for many, some players complain it isn't hitting 120 or even 90. "It's not a shooter — it's not a game where it's so important," he said, while confirming performance work will continue.

New Game Plus Is Being Considered

Tomaszkiewicz also teased the possibility of New Game Plus, potentially with new enemy variety to keep repeat runs fresh. "There is a chance but I don't want to speak about it yet," he said, joking that his publishing team would "kill" him if he revealed more.

The update is expected to arrive in early October, with Rebel Wolves continuing to gather player feedback in the meantime.
