Disney Dreamlight Valley's latest Star Path, the Astronomer's Journey, breaks from the usual formula in two big ways: it's permanently available rather than running on a deadline, and you can't access it until you complete a specific questline for Merlin. Here's the full path to unlocking it, and what to know once you have.
A Star Path Hiding Behind a Quest
Most Star Paths in Dreamlight Valley simply appear in the Event menu when they launch. The Astronomer's Journey doesn't work that way. It only becomes available after you finish Merlin's On the Path of Stars quest, which unlocks as soon as you open your very first Realm.
The quest is a fairly lengthy one, and the Star Path doesn't unlock partway through. The key milestone is setting up the Event Board for Merlin — the Astronomer's Journey only goes live once that stage is complete.
Two Ways to Track It
Once unlocked, you can view the event in two places:
- The Event Board — a special interactive item added to your valley permanently during On the Path of Stars. You can interact with it at any time to check the Astronomer's Journey.
- The Event page — the Star Path gets its own tab on the main menu, sitting right between DreamTeams and Shop.
One important mechanical difference from standard Star Paths: there are more duties and Tokens available than you actually need to claim every prize. Normally, leftover Tokens could be spent elsewhere, but in this event they can't — once you claim the final prize, the entire event is removed from your game, and any unspent Tokens vanish with it.
No Deadlines, But Watch Your Tokens
The Astronomer's Journey is currently the only permanent event in Dreamlight Valley, so there's no rush once you've unlocked it — you can work through duties entirely at your own pace. The real strategic consideration is the opposite of a time limit: claiming the last prize permanently deletes the event page and forfeits any surplus Tokens, so it's worth spending down what you can before wrapping up your final reward.
Current stage: the event is live and permanent for all players who complete Merlin's quest, and — unlike previous Star Paths — it will remain in the valley indefinitely until every prize is claimed.
FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
How do I unlock the Astronomer's Journey Star Path?
You must complete Merlin's "On the Path of Stars" quest, which becomes available once you open your first Realm. The Star Path unlocks only after you set up the Event Board for Merlin — a key milestone in that fairly lengthy questline.
Does the Astronomer's Journey have a deadline?
No. Unlike previous Star Paths, it's permanently available. It's currently the only permanent event in Disney Dreamlight Valley, and it remains in the valley indefinitely until every prize is claimed — you can work through duties entirely at your own pace.
Where can I track the event?
In two places: the permanent Event Board item in your valley (added during Merlin's quest), and its own tab on the main Event page in the menu, located between DreamTeams and Shop.
What happens to leftover Tokens?
There are more duties and Tokens than needed to claim every prize, but leftover Tokens cannot be spent elsewhere. Once you claim the final prize, the entire event is removed from your game and any unspent Tokens vanish, so spend down what you can before wrapping up.
