Finnish solo developer Jussi Simpanen, known for Duke Dashington and Tiny Dangerous Dungeons, is launching Copy Cats, a puzzle platformer where a lab-trapped cat escapes a virtual dimension with an army of identical clones. It arrives on October 29th for $3.99 on both the App Store and Google Play.
How It Happened
The setup is a familiar bit of mad science: a small cat gets caught in a lab accident and wakes up stranded in a strange virtual dimension. The only way home runs through a series of portals — but she can't reach them alone. Enter a mysterious cloning machine that hands her a small army of herself.
How It Plays
Every clone mirrors your moves perfectly. Run, and they all run; jump, and they all jump — think Simon Says, but with several committed felines at once. The puzzles come from turning the level layout against your own copies: walls and gaps hold some of them back while the others carry on, until everyone is lined up exactly where you need them.
The other trick is stacking. Clones can be piled into a furry ladder to reach platforms that are out of a single paw's reach. Because every jump counts for all bodies simultaneously, the puzzles can get fiendish quickly — you're solving for several cats at once, not one.
The Look
Visually, the game goes deliberately old-school, which helps when you need to track exactly which cat is standing where. That retro direction fits the developer's back catalogue: Tiny Dangerous Dungeons was built to look like a Game Boy release, and from the screenshots, Copy Cats sits in that same neighbourhood — just with more whiskers.
What's Next
Copy Cats launches October 29th as a premium title at $3.99 on the App Store and Google Play — no ads, no clones sold separately. If the pixel count has you hungry for more before launch, there are plenty of other retro-styled picks on iOS to get through in the meantime, though admittedly with fewer cats.
