The long-awaited seamless co-op mod for Dark Souls 2 is finally available, and it comes from one of the most trusted names in the FromSoftware modding scene. Yui, the creator behind hugely popular multiplayer mods for Elden Ring, Elden Ring Nightreign, and the first Dark Souls, has spent just over a year building this latest release — and it promises to change how fans experience Drangleic entirely.
Play the Whole Game Together
"Simply put, the mod allows you to play with friends throughout the entirety of the game with no restrictions," Yui explained in the mod's Nexus Mods description. "With this, it's theoretically possible to play the game from the tutorial up to the final boss completely in one co-op session."
Up to five friends can join a single host's world. Progression and NPC dialogue stay synced across the party, so everyone experiences the same story beats together, while the usual barriers that split co-op zones apart have been removed entirely. If a teammate falls in battle, they respawn at their last bonfire and wait, while the rest of the group keeps fighting until the encounter ends.
Quality-of-Life Extras and Difficulty Scaling
Yui has also baked in a set of balancing tools and convenience features. A "streamlined connection system" makes joining sessions far less fiddly, and hosts can adjust how difficulty scales with extra players. That said, the modder is upfront that running the game with friends "undoubtedly makes the game much easier" no matter what settings you pick — though they stressed this wasn't the point, saying the mod was "designed with fun in mind as opposed to reducing the challenge."
How to Install It (and What to Expect)
One important caveat: the mod is currently in an alpha state, so early adopters should expect bugs. Yui plans to patch issues as reports come in from players.
To get started, you'll need:
- Dark Souls 2: Scholar of the First Sin, updated to version 1.03
- The mod itself, downloadable from Nexus Mods or Github
- In-game, you'll receive a set of items used to set up and organize online sessions
For a full walkthrough, check the instructions in the mod's Nexus description or the official install and usage guide video. With Yui's track record on Elden Ring and Dark Souls co-op mods, this alpha release is likely just the starting point — expect steady updates as feedback rolls in.
