Minion Rush Shutdown Timeline: Gameloft’s 2013 Endless Runner Ends Jan 29, 2027
Background
Gameloft’s Minion Rush first released in 2013 as an endless runner built around the yellow Minions from Illumination’s Despicable Me films. The game’s core identity came from combining mobile running gameplay with the recognizable Minion characters from the franchise.
Development Process
Minion Rush remained active for more than 13 years, making it a long-running Minion-themed mobile release. The shutdown schedule now gives players a clear sequence of dates. Listings on Google Play and the App Store are set to close on October 30th, so players who want to install the game should do so before that date. A special farewell event will run from October 1st to October 28th and will offer exclusive in-game rewards.
Latest Progress
The announced final shutdown date is January 29th, 2027. After that date, Minion Rush will close its doors, ending normal access to the game. The October 1st–28th farewell event and October 30th listing closure form the last practical window for new players to start and for existing players to collect final rewards before the 2027 shutdown.
Current Stage
Minion Rush is now in its announced end-of-life phase: 2013 launch, more than 13 years of operation, October 1st–28th farewell event, October 30th store listing closure, and January 29th, 2027 shutdown. For players, the immediate value is the short October window to start or return to the game and earn the final rewards before the 2027 closure.
