Animal Crossing: New Horizons Adds a New Item to Commemorate the Series’ 25th Anniversary
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gets surprise v3.0.2 update for the series' 25th anniversary, available to Switch and Switch 2 players.
2001 to 2020: The Anniversary Background
The Animal Crossing life sim series reaches its 25th anniversary, and the game receiving the commemorative update is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. The franchise began in 2001, while New Horizons, developed by Nintendo EPD and published by Nintendo, launched on March 20, 2020 for Switch. That timeline explains the patch: it is not a new game announcement, but a small maintenance-style milestone inside a long-lived title.
The Surprise Patch Arrives as Version 3.0.2
Today, the surprise patch carries the version number 3.0.2 and is tied to the 25th anniversary. The number indicates a minor update within the game's existing support cycle, while the anniversary provides the reason for the release. The key confirmed facts are the arrival of the patch, its version label, and its availability across Switch and Switch 2.
Switch and Switch 2 Players Can Access the Same Version
The update is available across the Switch and Switch 2 versions of the game. For owners, the practical effect is simple: the anniversary patch can be checked through the normal console update process on both platforms. The scope is platform-wide, not exclusive to one hardware version.
Current Stage: Anniversary Update, Not a New Release
At this point, Animal Crossing: New Horizons is in an anniversary-maintenance stage. The key numbers are 25 years for the series, 2020 for New Horizons' launch, and 3.0.2 for the current patch. Readers should focus on whether the update has downloaded on their Switch or Switch 2 copy, while waiting for any later official detail about the patch's contents.
