Developer Glee Cheese has confirmed that Mr. Records, its music-driven adventure blending shop management with rhythm gameplay, is headed to PS5. The game has been on the radar of rhythm-game fans for a while, and the platform announcement gives console players a clear answer on where they'll be able to play it when it launches.
The Setup: Run a Record Store by Day
In Mr. Records you play the titular oldie, a record shop owner who needs to earn money to buy new music. The daytime loop is about matching customers with the right records and turning a profit — a management layer that gives the game structure beyond pure rhythm action.
The soundtrack is entirely original: 49 songs, each with its own fictional story and history that players can dig into at their own pace. That narrative-per-track approach is part of what's drawn attention to the project, alongside a distinctive art style.
By Night: Dreamscapes Built From the Music
The other half of the game takes those records somewhere stranger. At night, the music you've been listening to spills into "whimsical dreamscapes" — imaginative levels generated around each track.
"Each vinyl transforms into a vibrant rhythm adventure, with dynamic worlds that shift and evolve alongside the music. Run, jump, slide, and chain together perfectly timed actions as you journey through imaginative landscapes inspired by every track," Glee Cheese's press release explains.
So the loop runs both ways: selling records funds your collection, and your collection fuels the rhythm stages you play after hours.
Where Things Stand Now
Mr. Records has no release date yet — the PS5 announcement describes the launch as hopefully "not too distant." Players who want a preview don't have to wait, though: a demo is available now on PC, offering an early taste of both the shop-keeping and the rhythm gameplay.
For fans of music-themed storytelling — the kind of material found in manga like Record Journey — Mr. Records is shaping up as one to watch. The next milestone to look for is a concrete release date, which would presumably apply to both PC and PS5.
