If you've ever bounced off a 100-hour open-world epic and longed for something tighter, this is your week. A pair of remastered collections bringing multiple games from the 1990s to Xbox are arriving now, and the headline act is SiN Reloaded, a remaster of the 1998 PC shooter SiN, originally built by Ritual Entertainment on the Quake II engine — a game that, as its reputation goes, "pushed the Quake II Engine to its limits."
Why retro shooters keep coming back
The remaster was handled by Nightdive Studios, the team that has made a career out of reviving '90s classics, with credits ranging from System Shock to Turok and Quake re-releases. Their work typically means modern resolutions, frame rates, and console support layered over the original level design — the appeal for a lot of players who find older games too fiddly to revisit on original hardware.
For Xbox players specifically, the draw is that these titles have been largely PC-bound since the '90s. Their arrival on console opens them up to an audience that may never have touched the originals.
What's actually in the collections
SiN Reloaded is the flagship: the 1998 shooter pits hero John Blade against the villainous Elexis Sinclaire in a Quake II-powered action romp, remembered as much for its character and attitude as its gunplay.
The second bundle arriving this week also packages multiple '90s titles for their Xbox debuts, continuing the recent wave of retro collections landing on modern consoles.
Where things stand
Both releases are out on Xbox this week. If you've been curious about where today's shooters came from — or just want a shorter, more focused single-player experience than the current AAA standard — these are the easiest and most modern-friendly way in yet.
