Doors Slamming Shut is one of the many side Contracts waiting for you in Novigrad in The Witcher 3, making it a great detour if you want a pause from the main storyline or simply fancy seeing more of the world. This job sends Geralt after an Earth Elemental known as Therazane, hiding in a supposedly haunted house outside the city walls.
Below is a full walkthrough covering how to pick up the Contract, track down the Elemental, and bring the creature down.
How to Start Doors Slamming Shut
To pick up this Contract, head to the notice board on Hierarch Square. If you're having trouble spotting it, the board sits just outside the Kingfisher Inn in Novigrad.
The posting, titled Haunted House, asks you to examine a property just outside the city. It was recently bought by Count Kurt Dysart, who is currently lodging at the inn. The reason for his stay: the house appears to be haunted, and it has left the Count thoroughly rattled.
Your first step is to enter the inn and speak with the quest-giver directly. Go upstairs and circle around to the balcony, where the troubled nobleman awaits. Choose whichever dialogue options you prefer as he fills you in on the house's quirks and its location.
According to the Count, the building shakes all night and even has floorboards that move on their own — enough to violate just about any housing code. Before heading out, feel free to haggle and push for a higher reward. Extra crowns never hurt.
How to Find the Earth Elemental in the Moldavie Residence
With the details in hand, leave the city, mount Roach, and ride east toward the Moldavie Residence, which sits beside a lake. Use the key Kurt gave you to unlock the door and step inside the ominous building. The entire structure is trembling, so toggle your Witcher Senses to make sense of the scene.
Start by examining the food scattered across the floor and the goblet resting on the table. Then move to the next room and inspect the salt piled in one corner. Head downstairs afterward and locate a crack in the wall — shatter it with Aard to widen the opening. Squeeze through the gap and explore the basement ruins, crossing the planks until you reach a table. Pick up and read the journal lying on a second table nearby.
Return to the water and travel east until you spot a lever on the wall. Pull it to open the newly revealed passage through the archway. Walk through into the next room, but brace yourself: a huge elemental will greet you in dramatic fashion. To properly start the fight, strike the lock holding Therazane in place with your Aard Sign.
How to Kill Therazane
Therazane has only a couple of exploitable weaknesses, but both make the fight considerably easier. First, coat your blades with Elementa Oil to significantly boost your damage. Second, Dimeritium Bombs work wonders against the Elemental when thrown at the right moment.
Once the creature collapses, loot its body for ingredients and collect the trophy as proof of your victory. From there, either ride back or fast travel to the Kingfisher Inn. Speak with Kurt once more, explain how you resolved his haunted-house problem, and present the trophy to complete the Contract.
