Silent Hill Townfall Prologue gameplay guide

Simon's nightmare in Silent Hill Townfall kicks off when he washes ashore near St. Amelia, a quiet Scottish coastal town with more than a few secrets. The prologue acts as both an introduction to the town and a crash course in the game's core mechanics, and with fog obscuring your view at every turn, it's easy to miss something important. This walkthrough covers every main objective from the opening moments through to leaving the Haldane Hotel.

Silent Hill Townfall Prologue Objectives

The prologue won't take long to complete, but Simon picks up several key tools along the way. Here are the main objectives in order:

  1. Enter St. Amelia
  2. Unlock the St. Amelia Shorefront Map
  3. Answer the phone
  4. Go through the halls and unlock the CRTV
  5. Solve the door dial date puzzle in Haldane Hotel
  6. Exit the hotel

1. Enter St. Amelia

When Simon comes to on the pier, climb the nearby stairs and press forward. The gate straight ahead is locked, so take the stairs down on your right, climb the ladder, and make your way into town proper.

Once you've had a look at the St. Amelia signpost, head toward the flickering street lamp in the distance.

2. Unlock the St. Amelia Shorefront Map

Follow the street down from the lamp until a flare goes off, then turn right and climb the stairs. Stick to the right along the cobbled lanes, then take the next staircase on your left to reach the Pharmacy — which, unfortunately, is locked for now.

From there, head left of the Pharmacy toward the red light. A short cutscene plays, and once it wraps up, the St. Amelia Shorefront Map is yours.

3. Answer the Phone

With the map unlocked, the phone box in the Town Square starts ringing. Answer it — the caller hangs up immediately, but you'll spot three numbers you can dial yourself:

  • Emergency – 900: the number isn't recognised.
  • Operator – 010: services are suspended.
  • Save Yourself – 100: a mysterious voice asks for Simon's help. This is also the number you'll use to save your game going forward.

Achievement hunters, take note: there's an award for calling every phone number in the game, so if something looks like a number, dial it.

When you step out of the phone box, another cutscene triggers, dropping Simon into a dark room with a locked door marked with scratched tally counts.

4. Go Through the Halls and Unlock the CRTV

Open the door ahead and follow the hallway to the end, where a vent leads onward. After crawling through the flooded ruins, check the body on your left if you're being thorough, then keep right, climb the ladder at the end of the hall, and head through the door.

This is where you unlock the CRTV, a device that feeds Simon story details, objective information, and the locations of nearby enemies.

You're now in a hotel room. Use the CRTV here to watch two Signals:

  • Signal 1: a woman tells Simon they can't stay in this room forever and that difficult, important work awaits him.
  • Signal 2: a calendar showing January 18th.

5. Solve the Door Dial Date Puzzle in Haldane Hotel

Before tackling the puzzle, you can inspect a few items in the room: Simon's gilet on the bed, the medical equipment beside it, the oil painting on the wall, and the Haldane Hotel 1996 Menu on the desk.

The bathroom door has a dial that needs a date entered. You already have both clues you need:

  • January 18th, from the second CRTV Signal
  • 1996, from the Haldane Hotel Menu

Set the dial to January 18th, 1996 and the door swings open. Inside, grab the Room 204 Key and the Hotel Room Note.

6. Exit the Hotel

Use the Room 204 Key to leave the room, follow the hallway, and call the elevator down to the Haldane Hotel lobby. Feel free to poke around, though the only real point of interest is the Hotel Reception Notice document. When you're ready, head out through the front door — and after a deeply unsettling cutscene, your descent into Silent Hill truly begins.

From here, continue on to Part 1 of the Simon walkthrough to keep the journey going.
