This is a complete walkthrough for Valor Mortis: The Oathbound.
This walkthrough covers Valor Mortis: The Oathbound, seven Guardsmen fights, Emblems, Pyramids, and unlock the achievement.
Background: A Seven-Part Side Quest Hidden Across Chapters
Valor Mortis The Oathbound is a side quest built around seven hidden fights. The player must find and defeat seven Eternal Guardsmen, each placed in a different chapter of the game. Each Guardsman drops an Emblem and a Mysterious Stone Pyramid. The Emblems matter most: once all seven are collected, they open the way to a secret area and unlock the achievement We Wear The Same Colours.
The quest is best understood as a chapter-by-chapter route. It starts in the Battlefield and ends in the Fortress. There is no real-world date to track; the timeline is the in-game order of chapters. For players, the value is practical: seven named targets, seven separate hidden paths, and one final door that turns seven Mysterious Stone Pyramids into a Mysterious Stone Slab.
The walkthrough source also credits its images to One More Level/Eurogamer and points to related Valor Mortis collections: all Amber locations, all bosses, and all Ferrofluid Flask Power Upgrades.
Development: The Seven Chapter Stops in Order
Battlefield: Valen Duroc's Emblem
Begin at the Onslaught Arch Lantern in the Battlefield. Head toward the bridge behind the Lantern, then follow the cliff edge. Go right, cross the next bridge, and continue until a soldier is sleeping beside a crate. He wakes when the player approaches.
Go left of the sleeping soldier. A Nepthtoglobin node will be visible there. Shoot the node, move forward, and Valen Duroc will appear. Defeat him to receive a Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Valen Duroc's Emblem.
Valley of Ashes: Lucien Lafontaine's Emblem
Start at The Climb Lantern in the Valley of Ashes. Take the elevator beside the Lantern. At the middle section, crouch through the opening on the right. This leads into a room with mutant enemies. After a short climb, use a ladder to go higher.
At the top, go outside and keep right along the wooden platforms. When another ladder appears on the left, ignore it and continue along the wooden platforms just past it. At the end of the platforms, the player arrives beneath a bridge with enemies.
Clear the enemies, pass under the bridge, and begin moving up the corrupted path ahead. Before stepping onto the wagon, look down to the right. An easy-to-miss path leads to Lucien Lafontaine. Defeat him to receive a Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Lucien Lafontaine's Emblem.
Fallen Village: Etienne Vauclair's Emblem
From the Marketplace Lantern in the Fallen Village, go through the wagon behind it. This is the wagon connected with unlocking the Blunderbuss firearm. Move straight ahead, then turn left before the wooden gate.
The route reaches Nepthtoglobin formations and several platforms that can be crossed with wall-riding. Use them to reach a hut on the other side of the cavern. More parkour follows.
Eventually, the player arrives in a cave containing a Nepthtoglobin node. Go downward inside the cave until the node is visible, then shoot it. Exit the cave and enter the passage above that has now been opened. Etienne Vauclair waits there. Defeat him to receive a Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Etienne Vauclair's Emblem.
Caverns: Jean Pierre Polnaire's Emblem
Start at the Old Mine Lantern in the Caverns. Go straight into the mines. A crate can be used to cross the room. Interact with the crate's lever, freeze it with Stasis about halfway up, and use it to reach the opposite side.
Go up the ladder on that side and cross the room again. Next, climb the ladder in the current area, unfreeze the crate, and quickly use it to return to the original side. Kick down a ladder here to make future access easier.
Move into the room ahead, where Jean Pierre Polnaire is waiting. Defeating him adds Jean Pierre Polnaire's Emblem and a Mysterious Stone Pyramid to the inventory.
Cursed Hollow: Severin Susse's Emblem
From the Deep Water Lantern in Cursed Hollow, enter the house with blue banners on the left. This house acts as a shortcut that unlocks while the area is being explored.
After leaving the house, go straight ahead, then turn left into a poisonous area guarded by multiple Volunteer enemies. Continue past them into the swamp, which contains poisonous water, hay bales, and enemies.
Move through the swamp toward the University in the distance, but do not go through its gates. Instead, turn right toward more huts. As the huts come into view, look at the left-hand side. One hut has the Eternal Guardsmen's symbol painted on it, and Severin Susse stands just outside.
Defeat him to receive a Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Severin Susse's Emblem.
City of Orphans: Adrien Casell's Emblem
From the Shamble Street Lantern in the City of Orphans, go through the gate on the left. If the gate is locked, the shortcut has not been unlocked yet, so the player should continue exploring the area.
Past the gate, go downstairs and move straight onto the main street. Turn left under the bridge, then continue ahead past a Volunteer enemy. The route enters a poisonous area. The Shield Transmutation from the University can protect the player from taking damage here.
The Eternal Guardsmen's symbol is painted on the wall of the house on the left. Follow the alley on the left while crossing the poison. Once a mutant enemy is reached, turn left again. At the end of the back alley, climb the crates to enter a house.
Jump outside through the broken wall onto the street, then go left. Adrien Casell appears directly ahead. Defeat him to receive a Mysterious Stone Pyramid and Adrien Casell's Emblem.
Fortress: Bastien Beaufort's Emblem
From the Courtyard Lantern in the Fortress, go through the archway ahead, the one with the tricolore hanging from it. Turn left and defeat the Eternal Guardsman standing there.
Despite his appearance, this Guardsman is not Bastien Beaufort. After defeating him, go to the place where he was originally standing and loot the corpse there. This gives Bastien Beaufort's Emblem and a Mysterious Stone Pyramid.
Latest Progress: Secret Door, Achievement, and Chest Rewards
Spoiler Alert: This section covers the final secret area and quest completion.
Once all seven Eternal Guardsmen have been defeated, the Mysterious Stone Pyramids in the inventory are replaced by a Mysterious Stone Slab. After collecting all seven Emblems and the Slab, turn around from where Bastien Beaufort was standing in the Fortress. Move straight ahead to the opposite end of the hallway.
The player reaches a strange doorway blocked with stones. Beside it is the Eternal Guardsmen's symbol. Interact with the symbol after having all seven Emblems. This opens the way into a grand dining hall.
Inside, The Codex of the Oathbound lies on the table. Collecting it completes The Oathbound and unlocks the achievement We Wear The Same Colours.
The room also contains four chests. Opening them gives one Quintessential Blade Material, one Empty Ferrofluid Flask, and six Remnant's Return consumables.
The Oathbound ends as a seven-target checklist: Valen Duroc, Lucien Lafontaine, Etienne Vauclair, Jean Pierre Polnaire, Severin Susse, Adrien Casell, and Bastien Beaufort. Each one contributes to the secret area, but the final reward depends on completing the full set and reaching the hidden doorway in the Fortress.
