Silent Hill: Townfall Patch 1.6.0 Adds a Hard Difficulty Mode and Rebalances Every Existing Setting
Background
Silent Hill: Townfall launched on PS5 and PC on 24th September, developed by Screen Burn and published by Konami. In Eurogamer's Silent Hill: Townfall review, Matt awarded the game four out of five stars, saying Townfall showed Silent Hill's "stellar revival continues as new developer Screen Burn melds stealth, meticulous world design, and a dash of social realism for a different sort of survival horror".
Development Process
Earlier this week, according to patch notes published by Konami, patch 1.6.0 went live on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store. Konami said the rebalance is designed to create "a smoother difficulty curve for players to choose from". The central change is the addition of a new Hard difficulty mode. To make room for it, gameplay elements across all difficulty modes were rebalanced. Resources were adjusted in some sections of the game as part of difficulty balancing. Enemy hearing sensitivity now varies by difficulty, increasing as the difficulty level goes up. Player position is now visible on the map in all difficulty modes. The reduction to the main enemy's attack severity, The Weight, is now limited to Story Mode only.
Latest Progress
An official notice from Silent Hill Official (@SilentHill), dated October 29, 2026, described the update as tuning gameplay and addressing some in-game issues. It directed players to check the version number in the lower right corner of the main menu. The required version is v1.6.155963 on PC and v1.6.156035 on PlayStation®5. The update also includes user interface and accessibility changes. If a first playthrough is set to Nightmare difficulty, players now see a warning screen. The difficulty selection description now shows a clearer summary of how the options differ. Valve status lighting has been improved for colourblind players. Additional player hints and tutorials were added. Some puzzle hints and item wording were improved. The Options Menu was restructured to better separate options into categories. The controls remapping menu option was renamed so it no longer explicitly mentions only control pads, because keyboard and mouse commands can be remapped there too.
For PC players, the update adds a DLSS Ray Reconstruction option, alongside general improvements and bug fixes.
Current Stage
The current stage for Silent Hill: Townfall is post-launch balance and clarity. Patch 1.6.0 keeps the game on PS5, Steam, and the Epic Games Store while adding a harder tier, making difficulty differences more visible, and adjusting guidance, map information, enemy awareness, and PC rendering options. The update's version checks are v1.6.155963 on PC and v1.6.156035 on PlayStation®5.
