Learn how to use fast travel in Valor Mortis.

Unlock Valor Mortis fast travel by beating General Lothaire and resting at the Abandoned Church Lantern, then revisit areas for backtracking.

Opening limitation: the Lanterns are not mapped from the start

Valor Mortis does not give William instant travel between Lanterns at the beginning. The opening stretch is intentionally restrictive, and each Lantern remains unnamed until fast travel becomes available. This makes the early map feel more disorienting than it will later.

Unlock sequence: defeat General Lothaire, then rest inside the Abandoned Church

The trigger is the first boss fight: General Lothaire, The Eagle Bearer, outside the Abandoned Church. After defeating him, enter the Church behind him. There, William reunites with his comrade, James. Once that dialogue ends, go to the Lantern inside the Abandoned Church. Resting there now shows the fast travel option. Selecting it opens a list of all regions and their Lanterns.

What changes after the menu appears

As William rekindles new Lanterns, each one is added to the fast travel menu, allowing any discovered Lantern to be revisited. The Abandoned Church, which acts as the hub area, can also be returned to at any time through the same menu.

Why revisit old areas

Returning to previously visited locations becomes useful after gaining levels and new Transmutations. Some routes stay closed until William has traversal means such as the Grapple ability or Shield Transmutation. Fast travel makes that backtracking practical rather than tedious.
