Fire Emblem Fortune's Weave guide: Secret Altar and Purloined Spellcaster's Tools quest walkthrough

The Purloined Spellcaster's Tools side quest in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave sends you hunting for the Secret Altar, a location the game marks on your map but never explains how to reach. If you've been wandering around looking for a clear path, that's because there isn't an obvious one — but there is a reliable route, and it's much shorter than it first appears.

Why the Quest Trips Players Up

The map marker for Secret Altar only helps if you've already explored the surrounding area thoroughly. Without that groundwork, you'll see where to go without any hint of how to get there. The answer lies in a dungeon you may have already brushed past: the Masked Woods.

Step 1: Warp to Aurora's Temple as Cai

The route is straightforward if you're playing as Cai. By this point in the story, Cai has access to the Gate of the Gods, which lets him warp directly to Aurora's Temple on the overworld. That's exactly where you want to be — the entrance to Secret Altar sits two spaces to the West of Aurora's Temple.

Step 2: Push Through the Masked Woods

To reach that entrance, you need to traverse the Masked Woods. It's a dungeon in the same vein as the Wandering Wood, but less confusing — and crucially, it has a designated exit. Leave through that exit and a new path appears, leading you straight to the Secret Altar.

Once there, you'll face a relatively simple battle. Win it, and you can collect the Spellcaster's Relics to complete the objective.

Quest Rewards

With the relics in hand, head back to the quest giver, the Spellcaster-Tool Merchant. He hands over three rewards:

• White-Magic Manual — a solid pickup for your designated healer
• 1,500 Gold
• 80 Renown

Gold and the manual make this quest worth the detour; the 80 Renown is admittedly on the stingy side, but every little helps.

Where You Stand Now

If you've been stuck staring at the map marker, this clears the whole quest in three moves: warp as Cai, exit the Masked Woods through its designated exit, win the battle at the altar. From there, you're free to chase the game's other fetch-quest items, like Sweet Leaves, Bitter Leaves, and Yaamanthemum.
